Oil Pulling With Coconut Oil

Updated on February 10, 2013

Oil Pulling With Coconut Oil

If you've never heard of it, oil pulling is a simple healing practice consisting of the swishing of oil inside the mouth for approximately 15 to 20 minutes. It's best when done first thing in the morning upon wakening and before breakfast (food or drink).

It works best when done slowly, almost like rinsing your mouth out with mouth wash, just done slowly inside the mouth, moving the oil around and in between your teeth. You can use a tablespoon of oil. Then, simply spit it out in the toilet and rinse your mouth out a few times with warm water and brush your teeth, if desired.

This practice has been done for many years in countries like China and India. However, people in the United States are catching on to the health benefits. If anything, it really does help improve your dental health. This is the reason I do oil pulling with coconut oil and I am very pleased with the results, and so is my dentist.

Who Can Benefit From Oil Pulling?

Oil pulling is actually safe for anyone, any age. Of course, a child must be able to swish the oil around in the mouth without swallowing. It's recommended for anyone 5 years of age and up. It's a completely safe practice that's done in the privacy of your home. It's very inexpensive, because all that is needed is the expense of the oil, that's it.

For whatever your reason to try oil pulling, there are many health benefits which I will talk about in a few minutes. I told you that my reason is for improving my dental health, which it works amazing for. I oil pull each morning for 15 minutes. However, if you would like to treat a chronic infection, then it's recommended to oil pull 3 times per day waiting 4 hours after a meal.

Detox Symptoms

You may or may not experience detoxification symptoms your first few times of oil pulling. If you have a lot of toxins being drawn out of the body, you may experience symptoms of increased mucus, congestion, headaches, and break outs. This is nothing to be alarmed about. These symptoms will subside as you continue your oil pulling therapy.

What Type Of Oil Can Be Used?

Any type of edible oil may be used. personally use Organic Coconut Oil mainly because I enjoy the taste. I also drink a tablespoon in my coffee each morning after my oil pulling therapy. This works well for me, however, everyone is different. Some other oils that may be used include sunflower, sesame, or virgin olive oil. Make sure you get oil that is organic, unrefined, and cold-pressed which can be found online or at an organic food market.
