What Is Oil Pulling?
An Easy Process
Have you ever heard of oil pulling? It's basically an easy process done in the privacy of your home and takes about 20 minutes, first thing in the morning.
It's fairly easy to do and will benefit you in many ways. Any kind of edible oil may be used, preferably an organic vegetable oil.
One of the most important benefits of oil pulling is improved oral health. However, there are other health benefits when done daily.
You are swishing the oil around inside your mouth for 20 minutes and in this time, the oil is pulling the toxins from the deep crevices in your mouth. After the 20 minutes, simply spit the oil and rinse the mouth thoroughly.
It's a simple home remedy that has been used for thousands of years in other countries. It started in India as an ancient detoxification for the body.
How To Oil Pull
This is a very easy process. Simply take a tablespoon of any organic vegetable oil and swish it around inside your mouth. This may include sunflower, sesame, olive, or organic coconut oil.
The best time of the day is upon wakening and on a completely empty stomach. It's such a safe practice, even children can do it as long as they don't swallow the oil and know to spit it out.
Of course, adults will use a tablespoon of whichever oil they choose and children, just a teaspoon. A good time to start is when you are not feeling well making this a highly effective detox for the body.
Start out placing a tablespoon of oil inside the mouth. It's best to do this in a resting position, like sitting on the couch and watching the news. Slowly swish the oil around inside the mouth, in between the teeth and around the gums, swishing away.
How It Works
Oil pulling activates the enzymes inside the mouth giving it a powerful detoxifying affect on our bodies. The oil will pull the toxins, bacteria, fungus, and bugs that lie deep in the crevices of the mouth. When these reach the bloodstream, we become sick.
Our mouth is the gateway to the body. This is where the bacteria and microorganisms mix with our saliva to eventually reach the bloodstream. With oil pulling, we are pulling these toxins and getting rid of them before they enter our bodies and make us sick.
What If I Can't Do The Full 20 MInutes
If you're first trying this out, practice makes perfect. Not everyone can go the full 20 minutes of oil pulling, so you can break it down if needed. My first time, I did a total of 15 minutes which I broke down.
By breaking it down, I oil pulled for as long as I could the first time, which was for 7 minutes. I spit it out and started again for 8 minutes. I didn't do the full 20 minutes the first time, but that's okay.
The most important thing is to oil pull for up to 20 minutes, spit, and rinse the mouth out thoroughly. If one oil doesn't work for you, whether you don't like the taste, move on to something that you can tolerate.
I use organic coconut oil for oil pulling because I don't mind the taste or smell of coconuts, plus I use it as a moisturizer for my hair and skin. It's trial and error, with practice making perfect.
Main Benefit: For Oral Health
One of the main benefits of oil pulling is for oral health. An amazing result is that it helps fix loose teeth. Some other benefits include:
- Eliminate bad breath
- Removes infection
- Tooth sensitivity
- Tooth pain
- Stop tooth decay
- Natural teeth cleanser
You may find this all hard to believe, but since I started oil pulling, I haven't had a cavity when getting my 6 month checkup. My teeth also feel stronger and even look whiter. Sometimes I will even brush my teeth with organic coconut oil because it makes them feel so much cleaner.
